August Busiest Month At Airport

Over 830,000 passengers used Cesar Manrique Airport during the month of August, the highest total of the year and the second successive month with more than 800,000. There were not any signifcant delays for people using the EES system, with most regular visitors to the island now in the system.

City Bikes Coming To Arrecife Imminently

Arrecife Ayuntamiento has published the rates for the E Bikes which will finally fill the nine collection and charging points which have been in place for many months. The bikes will cost 2,50 € per half hour with a monthly pass at 6 € and a quarterly card at 16 €.

New Pavements For Las Colorades

Yaiza Ayuntamiento has started work replacing the pavements in the Los Coloradas area of Playa Blanca. The work will cost 1 million Euros and the town council are asking for patience from homeowners and businesses during the likely disruption.

Christmas Market Confirmed For Yaiza

Yaiza Ayuntamiento is asking for applications for this year’s Christmas Market in Yaiza. The plan is to have 36 stalls located at the Plaza de los Remedios in the centre of the town.

Construction Begins On Diving Centre At Playa Chica

Work has started on the new diving centre in the old car park at Playa Chica in Puerto del Carmen. The 1.2 Million Euro project will provide changing and showering facilities to divers from 17 dive schools around the island.

Another High Temperature Alert

Another heatwave is expected this week on Tuesday, with up to 37 degrees expected across the island. A gradual decrease will follow from Wednesday onwards, seeing daytime temperatures stabilise to the high 20’s by the end of the week.

Thousands of Pilgrims Walk To La Mancha

As always at this time of year, thousands of islanders walked to Mancha Blanca over the weekend as part of the Los Dolores pilgrimage. Once there, many attended the craft fair and the huge party afterwards.

And 800,000 Attend Craft Fair

Just over 800,000 people attended this year’s craft fair in Mancha Blanca, a record number. 140 artisans were at the fair displaying a wide range of arts and crafts.

British Man Found Dead On Beach

A British man, resident of Costa Teguise, was declared dead on a local beach on Monday, after locals called emergency services when he appeared not to be moving.

On September 18, Arrecife En Vivo—the island’s largest rock festival—kicks off with free concerts every Friday. The bands Hermana Furia, The Rapants, Repion, and Ultraligera start the festival on the stages at the Plazuela, the Charco, the marina, and the cruise ship terminal. The street band Artistas del Gremio will provide musical accompaniment as you make your way from stage to stage. Admission is free; however, entry to the stage at the cruise port is restricted to those 18 and older.
