Cyclist Seriously Injured

A 50 year old cyclist has suffered serious injuries after coming off his bike in Tinajo. He was stabilised at the roadside by emergency services and taken to hospital in Arrecife.

Tias Has Second Highest Company Ownership Of Properties

Tias, including Puerto del Carmen, has the second highest percentage of properties owned by businesses in Spain. 27% of properties in Tias are owned by companies, rather than individuals, and half of those companies own ten or more properties.

Crime Down

Crime continues to fall in Lanzarote and figures for the first six months of 2026 have shown a further fall of 3.9% when compared to the previous year. Lanzarote averages 44 crimes per 1000 inhabitants, and the average for the whole of Spain is 51, one of the lowest levels in Europe.

House Prices Double In 10 Years

The average price of property in Lanzarote has doubled over the last ten years, with Arrecife having the largest increase at 170%. Tias and Yaiza were also above average with Teguise on the average. Properties in Haria and Tinajo had the smallest increase in values.

Complex Water System Discovered At Aborigine Village Dig

The dig at El Bebedero near Tiagua of a Maho village thought to date to about 100BC has revealed a surprisingly complex water storage system, as well as m ore evidence that Romans were in the area in that time, with Roman pottery, amphoras and remnants of Roman sandals having been discovered.

Nueva Canarias Put Tourist Tax Back On The Table

The Nueva Canarias political party has said they will add the introduction of a tourist tax to their manifesto for the next election. At this stage they haven’t given specific information about how much will be charged or where then money will go.

Four Seasons Yacht Will Dock In Playa Blanca

We reported last week that the super luxury Four Seasons Yacht will be docking in Arrecife on 6th November. It will stop there to be “cleared” to visit Lanzarote, but it will then sail down to Playa Blanca where it will be the first cruise ship to visit the southern resort.

Marlin Cup Starting

The competition takes place from October 1st to 3rd with boats from Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria and maintains its commitment to tagging and releasing white and blue marlin. Tag and release is one of the defining characteristics of the Puerto Calero Marlin Cup. This approach allows participants to maintain all the excitement of sport fishing while simultaneously contributing to the knowledge and conservation of these species. The event has been running for 30 years.

Road Closures This Sunday For Bike Race

There’s two running races this weekend.


Be aware of road closures and diversions for the Vuelta Ciclista event on Saturday & Sunday. These are some timings and fan zone information for both days.


The big game fishing event Marlin Cup is being held in Puerto Calero.


Playa Blanca has a 3 day event, Rhythms of the World taking place in the Plaza del Carmen in the centre of town. Expect typical music & dancing from lots of different countries, as well as a food tasting event on Sunday. Free entry and everyone’s invited!


Fiestas del Aguapata are being celebrated in El Islote from 2-11 October.


Arrecife en Vivo street concerts are on Friday 2 October, free entry and a fun atmosphere walking between the stages.


El Cuchillo are celebrating their fiesta from 3-12 october.
