PM Leaves
Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez return to Madrid at the weekend after his 3 week summer holiday here in Lanzarote. Sanchez and his family spent time at the beach, scuba diving and enjoying several local restaurants while they were here, staying at the former KIng’s home in Costa Teguise.
Don’t Harm The Geckos!
Tourists are being asked not to harm the island’s Gecko population. The Majorero gecko ( Tarentola angustimentalis) endemic to Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, lives in homes and buildings alongside humans and does a super job of killing unwanted insects like mosquitoes and cockroaches. The Atlantic lizard or Haría lizard ( Gallotia atlantica ) is another important species that helps control insect populations. It feeds on a wide variety of invertebrates such as beetles, ants, grasshoppers, and larvae , helping to regulate their populations and prevent them from becoming pests that affect crops or wild flora.
Questions Being Asked About Contracts in Tinajo
Questions are being asked by opposition councillors about the number of contracts being awarded by the council without any kind of tender or contract process. The Tinajo Town Council has invoices without contracts worth just under 408,500 euros.
David Bisbal Closes Fiesta San Ginés
David Bisbal brought the fiesta San Ginés in Arrecife to a spectacular close . According to figures provided by the city council, the artist behind hits like ” A partir de hoy” and ” Dígale” drew a crowd of 30,000 people to Lanzarote’s capital.
Canaries Lead Mortgage Surge
The strong economy across Spain saw a 10.8% increase in new mortgages this June when compared to last year. But the biggest growth came here in The Canaries with 31,4% more mortgages granted this year. The average interest rate was 2.69%
Cabildo Has 11 Million Euros To Buy Properties
The Cabildo has made 11 Million Euros avialable to buy more property. The Lanzarote Island Council is looking for developments, blocks or complexes of a minimum of 70 privately developed subsidized housing units for possible acquisition, an action for which it has up to 11,075,315 euros available.
Vocational Training For High Demand Jobs
Plumbers, electricians, bricklayers, and plasterers are in high demand on the island. In fact, it’s one of the most sought-after sectors, and finding workers often becomes a major headache for both construction companies and homeowners looking to renovate their properties.
22 New Lifeguards Trained
The islands’s chamber of commerce has carried out a training course for 22 new lifeguards, who have now received their diplomas. The new lifeguards underwent 150 hours of training.
